During National Adoption Month, we celebrate families that are made whole through the process of adoption. This month gives us the opportunity to ensure every child has the possibility to live in and be a part of a loving home and to raise awareness of the dire need for advocacy on their behalf. It is estimated that more than 114,000 children are waiting to be adopted from foster care in the United States. Each year on National Adoption Day, awareness is focused on a new adoption-related theme to help support professionals working each day to find housing for so many in need. This year’s theme is “Small Steps Open Doors.” The adoption process can be challenging – this theme reminds us though,  that small steps can make a big difference. Education is one of the most important first steps to take!

Below is a list of organizations that have assembled to raise awareness on National Adoption Day which was celebrated on November 18th.

Thomas Foundation for Adoption

Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute

Alliance for Children’s Rights

Children’s Action Network

Currently, more than 75,000 children in foster care have been given secure homes and a chance to build a thriving life both present and future due to National Adoption Day.

In a statement given this month by President Biden, he committed to helping adoptive families with the costs of adoption by extending the adoption tax credit to legal guardians. With less financial worry, adoptive families can focus more on creating and maintaining a supportive foundation where all family members may thrive. The President’s work also includes reduction in discrimination and biased held in the adoption process by providing services to Welfare Agencies to bring awareness to the difficulties often met by LGBTQIA+ families looking to adopt.

This Month Let Us Celebrate the Unconditional Love and Devotion shown by the many adoptive families, as well as the professionals working diligently together to help change the lives of so many with dedication, love and compassion!
