The State of Mental Health in Michigan
Michigan currently ranks 16th in the United States for mental healthcare. The Behavioral Health & Developmental Disabilities Administration (BHDDA), under the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), is responsible for the reformation of their current mental healthcare system, in order to provide the resources necessary to build resilience in their communities. The BHDDA determines the standard of care that all Michigan residents can expect when they seek treatment from a licensed counselor or therapist. Currently, the BHDDA is working on establishing a strong integrative care model, while improving on accessibility in all phases of mental illness, from prevention, to treatment and recovery. The BHDDA ensures that all residents have access to the resources that promote their well-being and ability to prosper. This includes access to therapists, psychologists, and counselors throughout the state.
Michigan uses a Mission-Based Performance Indicator System to measure the timeliness and efficiency of mental healthcare delivery, as well as continued care. The MBPIS consists of direct feedback from the community, advocates, family members, and individuals who are impacted by mental health illnesses. This information is used to develop and refine an effective public policy surrounding mental health issues. For more information on the MBPIS, visit this link.

Let go of guilt and shame, better understand why we behave the way we behave, learn more about ourselves and what we want and don't want, feel comfortable advocating for our needs and desires, normalize direct and regular communication with others.
