The State of Mental Health in Missouri
Michigan currently ranks 24th in the United States for mental healthcare. The Missouri Department of Mental Health (DMH) is responsible for the reformation of their current mental healthcare system, and for providing the resources necessary to build resilience in their communities. The DMH aims to instill hope in their community through opportunities and community inclusion. This begins with their initiative of public mental illness education. Coupled with a rising standard of quality care, and accessibility to rehabilitation support services, we should see Missouri’s ranking rise in the coming years.
Missouri’s DMH emphasizes that unique participant characteristics must be respected. All ages, ethnicities, genders, races, religions, sexual orientations, and socio-economic conditions are welcome to utilize DMH’s many mental health programs. WIth this basis for inclusivity, the state is hoping to see an increase in participation from their diverse communities, whether they are seeking treatment from a licensed counselor or therapist, or joining community mental health groups. Improving on accessibility in all phases of mental illness, from prevention, to treatment and recovery, will be imperative in the DMH’s progress, and more-so in the wellbeing and prosperity of all Missouri residents. This includes access to therapists, psychologists, and counselors throughout the state.

NAMI Missouri
The National Alliance for Mental Illness, or NAMI, is open to anyone struggling with mental illness. NAMI is an inclusive and community-based resource geared towards raising awareness and supporting group members on their journey to recovery. With group counseling sessions led by a trained member with a diagnosis (past or present), meetings follow a set of 12 principles for support. NAMI meetings are meant to complement your existing treatment plan with your counselor or psychologist. There are many chapters of NAMI that meet in Missouri, including virtual meet-ups. My approach to therapy is to use a mixture of modalities. I do not believe it’s a one size fits all approach to therapy. My goal is to help my clients reach their own conclusions instead of telling them their own conclusions.
get you where you want to be in your life.

I'm gentle, but truthful. I will challenge you, but always strive to make it in a way that works for YOU. We're all different. Therapy should be as unique as you are. I love to integrate creative activities or interventions into our sessions.
