The State of Mental Health in Oklahoma
Oklahoma currently ranks 40th in the United States for mental healthcare. The Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS), is responsible for improving their current mental healthcare system, and for providing the resources necessary to build resilience in their communities. The ODMHSAS determines the standard of care that all Oklahoma residents can expect when they seek treatment from a licensed counselor or therapist. Currently, the need for care far outweighs the services that are actually available. ODMHSAS is working on improving accessibility in all phases of mental illness, from prevention, to treatment and recovery, by providing payment for care for those that are not able to pay themselves.
ODMHSAS would like to ensure that all residents have access to the resources that promote their well-being and ability to prosper. This includes access to therapists, psychologists, and counselors throughout the state. ODMKHSAS has many programs in place to help achieve this vision. One such program is the Criminal Justice Diversion Treatment Services. The implementation of programs like this leads to better outcomes for offenders, reduces the cost to taxpayers, and changes lives.

My clients have to be successful in order for me to be successful. However I won’t work harder than my clients but I will work every bit as hard as they do.

Therapy is about change. During our work, I will support you and assist you in identifying and changing the patterns that are not serving you. I approach therapy with an integrative approach, combining relational and cognitive-behavioral techniques.
Honestly, I hope that all my clients feel comfortable enough to discuss whatever is bothering them, without fear of judgment.

I work from a person-centered approach. Therapy is for the individual. I am simply a source to provide a helping hand. The real work is done outside of the session.
It is my goal to provide a safe space through compassion, validation, empathy, patience, and support.
