Trauma can live quietly in the body—held in the breath, the muscles, and the nervous system. You may experience symptoms of intrusion (flashbacks), avoidance (people, places, and objects), negative alterations in cognitions and mood (estrangement from others) and marked alterations in arousal and reactivity (irritability and hypervigilance).

As a trauma steward, for over a decade, I have walked alongside children, adolescents, and adults impacted by posttraumatic stress. My journey spans work in nonprofit organizations, private and public-school settings, healthcare environments, and county and state agencies. I have supported healing in three states: New York, Washington and California.
