...you set the pace. I won't push you toward the hardest thing in the room before you're ready, and I won't decide ahead of time what your experience is supposed to mean. I ask a lot of questions, and I'm genuinely curious about your answers rather than checking them against a theory.

...decide together what we're working on and check whether it's still the right thing as we go. Some sessions will have structure and skills to practice. Others will be you talking and me listening closely. Both are the work, and you'll help choose which one you need.

...someone who actually remembers. Clients tell me I bring back things they mentioned once, months ago, and that being tracked that closely is unfamiliar. Being paid real attention is not something most people get much of, and it does a fair amount of the work on its own.

...are holding it together on the outside and struggling underneath. People who show up to work, answer the texts, take care of everyone else, and have nowhere to put what they're actually carrying. If you've gotten good at being fine, this is a place where you don't have to be.

...I kept meeting people at the worst moment of their lives and then having to hand them off. Four years of crisis work taught me how much can happen in one honest hour, and how much more is possible when that hour isn't the only one. I wanted to be the person who stays.
