I focus first on the patient's goals - that is our destination. To get there, we often focus on the psychological realm (improving self-understanding, identifying patterns in relationships to others) and the logistical realm (behavioral change).

Sometimes the most therapeutic thing you can do in a session is to help a patient send the email they have been avoiding, or delete the app that is harming their life. We volley between big stuff and little stuff, always landing on meaning.
