If you are the person your family leans on, you have probably gotten very good at handling everything and saying nothing about it. I will notice that out loud. I am honest in a way people tell me feels respectful rather than blunt, and I will hold you to what you said you wanted. Most of my clients stay with me for years. That is the part I am proudest of.

Start with what is actually happening this week, not the tidy version of it. We will look at where all your energy is going, who is getting it, and what changes if you take some of it back. I will ask you to try one thing before the next session, and then we will talk honestly about how it went, including the weeks it did not go at all.

Direct. Warm, but they know I will say the thing. More than one has told me I was the first person who did not simply agree with them, and I do not think you came here to be agreed with. I will take you seriously enough to push a little, and I will be the same person in the room every week, whether the news is good or bad that day.

I have spent more than 25 years as a helping professional, in hospitals and homes and on the phone, finding people housing, care and some way through the week. The practical crisis and the emotional one turned out to be the same crisis almost every time. I wanted to be the person who stays for both instead of handing off the file.

I hold a Masters in Social Work from Ohio State and a Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling from Wright State, and I am licensed in Ohio as an independent supervisor.
