Shen-Yun (Irene) Chou

I'm Irene, a bilingual (English and Mandarin) psychotherapist and art therapist offering both in-person and virtual sessions at Transcendent Self Therapy in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. I believe every person already holds the potential to find their own answers, and sometimes going slowly is actually the faster way there.

Together, we'll get curious about what's really going on beneath the surface — exploring your history, your patterns, and what's bringing you here right now, without rushing toward answers. Depending on what feels useful, we might bring in art making, dream work, or simply talk things through; art making is always optional, never required.

My clients find me warm, calming, grounded, and easy to open up to — someone who brings genuine presence into every session and is willing to sit with them through difficult moments, and is passionate about helping them arrive at points of growth and clarity.

I work with people navigating life transitions, grief, existential concerns, identity, cultural displacement, or relationship struggles—often thoughtful, self-aware people who feel stuck in patterns they can't quite shift alone. Many are bicultural, immigrants, or international students seeking a bilingual therapist who shares their lived experiences.

I've always cared deeply about people. I'm drawn to how we build meaning out of the environments we inhabit — first as an architectural designer, thinking about physical space, and now as a therapist, thinking about our inner landscapes. I want people to feel truly seen, not just understood.

I offer individual and couples therapy for adults of all ages in English and Mandarin, both in-person in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and virtually across New York, integrating art therapy and creativity into a humanistic, person-centered approach. I currently have availability for new clients.
