Do you want to know the fastest way to feel good? Slow down. I am not going to mention a drug or a drink or a quick fix. I mean something you can proactively do that is guaranteed to improve your mood.

Help someone else.

It is that simple. Now our first instinct is to go on the defense. But, I need help. I am the one who does not feel good. I am the one with problems. Put that aside for a moment and think of someone else. I promise you there is someone out there who has it worse than you.

You want to know why this works? Because it is impossible to feel sorry for ourselves when we are thinking about someone else.

So how do we do this? It can be big or small. Smile at someone on the street. Say hello to a neighbor. Bring someone a meal. Buy someone’s groceries. Give your kids a hug.

I say all this to encourage you. Have you ever been having a bad day and someone does something that turns it around for you? And all of a sudden…..you forget your problems and feel a little better.

How good would it feel to be that for someone else?

So get out of your head. Stop worrying about your problems. And do something small for someone else. I can almost guarantee that you will feel a little lighter.
