ETT is an attachment-based interpersonal therapy that is used to treat a wide variety of mental health issues including but not limited to depression, anxiety, and trauma. Founded by Dr. Steven Vazquez, based out of Austin, TX, ETT utilizes multiple techniques based on light frequency and color. ETT uses a combination of four main components: psychotherapy, light therapy, eye movement and brainwave entrainment/disentrainment (similar in some ways to biofeedback). All listed components are verified as effective therapeutic interventions by a variety of respected research.

So, how does it work?

Most people seek therapy due to their unmanageable and distressing emotional experiences. There is typically an element of feeling ‘stuck,’ unable to move forward or through that distress. ETT uses new research about how light stimulation impacts mood and makes possible pathways to transform emotional states, therefore decreasing the distress one may feel.

For example, a common treatment for Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a light box that mimics natural outdoor light. These light boxes cause a change in the brain that lifts mood and eases other symptoms of the disorder.

With this information as well as additional research, it has been discovered that emitting certain wavelengths of light into a client’s eyes during a therapy session can pull forward previously blocked emotions and transform mood.

ETT is documented to transform both emotional and physical pain through these interventions of light, color and eye movement. With this kind of brain stimulation, ETT often drastically speeds up access to new and helpful insights that exceed traditional talk therapies. This modality can be seen as a form of biofeedback where integration and strengthening of neurological activity can sidestep intellect and target specific parts of the brain for high levels of distress reduction.
