Sanctuary: a place of refuge or safety. Where do you feel most safe?

I had someone long ago try to convince me that I was a recluse. I carried that for a long while…..

In reality, I am a master of creating safety.

Living alone whether by choice or by destiny is a gift no matter the length of time. Here’s why:

1. You are able to express yourself as much as your budget will allow. Go crazy! Get that pink couch. Hang that giant picture of yourself! Turn your living room into a greenhouse. Look around and breathe in your uniqueness.

2. You are in control. You can cry when you need to, sing as loud as you want to, dance around in your underwear if that suits you. Be neat. Be messy. Be in between.

3. You will learn to love your own company. Ever starfish in the middle of your bed? Try it. Ever sit quietly in your space, armed with your own thoughts and emotions? It can be scary…until it’s not. Discover you.

4. You are responsible for you. You may or may not be paying the full rent/mortgage of where you call home but either way your life would be altered if you did not contribute to the roof, food, heat and water that sustains you. Adulting sucks. However, lack of control of your wellbeing sucks more. Be proud of how accountable you are. You are powerful.

You thought you craved to wake up to the same person everyday? Lol. That person is you.
