5 Top Reasons To Try Telehealth When Seeking Mental Health Services

Telehealth has been around for years yet many individuals were only introduced to this platform once the Covid-19 pandemic restricted in person contacts around the world.  Many individuals felt skeptical of this “new” method of communication and service provision.  As the pandemic placed a halt on every day in person interactions we began to see an increase in telehealth as our leading platform to continue providing support services for those in need.

As a telehealth only provider these have been the top 5 reasons clients have shared allows them to continue receiving mental health services during this transitional period.

1. Easier to access

One of the hardest things for some of us to do is ask for help; trust me, I have been there.  It makes it easier to seek mental health support when feeling down and resource are only a click away.  Often times in person clinics have long waiting lists, require multiple appointments to complete intake paperwork and often times leaves potential seekers feeling intimidated.   Easier access via your internet browser allows a therapy seeker the flexibility to search for a provider of their choosing from the comfort of their own home. It takes less time to attend sessions, giving clients more balance

2. No Commute Time

Lets face it, for those of us who commute (Specially in NYC) we know a quick 20 minute commute on public transportation can easily turn into “we are being held in the station momentarily” and end in a 1 hour delay which will equal to a missed session time.    Telehealth services doesn’t require a commute time since you are logging in via your smart phone or computer browser in whatever location you choose.

3. Allows You to Be IN Your Element

Seeking help can be a difficult task.  Being in the comfort of your own space allows for a decrease in anxiety leading to your first interaction.  I have recently heard from my clients express the comfort they feel knowing they can relax at home and how telehealth has allowed them the space to express themselves freely because they are in their element.

4. Fits Into Your Hectic Lifestyle

Many individuals are busy juggling multiple responsibilities.  Family, work, personal relationships and day to day responsibilities.  It is often times difficult to fit in yet another appointment that requires added time and effort.  Being able to attend a therapy session in between every day work meetings and life events without adding additional stress throught the day is a great perk.

5. Avoid The Waiting Room

Many of my clients have shared feeling relieved they are able to log in via a secure telehealth platform to obtain mental health support.  With a large clientele that struggles with social anxiety it can be difficult to attend an office space where you are surrounded by people.  It can be discouraging and intimidating to walk in a crowded waiting room to wait for your appointment time to begin.

I find myself most excited about telehealth and its limitless opportunities. As a telehealth-only provider, I have found so much more flexibility for my clients and myself. It feels as if a barrier has been lifted and I have been told it’s such a comforting process to know you can receive the support you need from home via video platforms rather than having to commute. Being been able to attend sessions during breaks from work or everyday activities makes seeking support more accessible. It is extremely beneficial and efficient for everyone.
