Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

From September 15th to October 15th we are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month! This is a time to acknowledge all of the contributions, trials and tribulations, and resilience of those with Hispanic heritage. This month can be celebrated not only by those with latinx roots, but by all. Here are some ways that you can immerse yourself in Hispanic culture and the meaningful celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

History

There are many different countries that make up Hispanic Heritage Month. Each with their own rich culture, history, and traditions. Take some time this month to learn about the different Hispanic cultures that celebrate this month and why it is important to them.

Support Latinx Businesses

Whether you are able to shop small or browse on the internet, there are countless Latinx owned businesses that you can patronize. Shopping at your local hispanic owned businesses can also be a wonderful way to build connections within your community.

Expand Your Palette

All people have a comfort meal that is near and dear to their heart. For many that meal is a comfort because it reminds them of their family and their culture. Latinx culture is filled to the brim with delicious recipes that bring family, friends, and strangers together. What better way to learn about another culture than to enjoy the foods that unify them!

Read Books by Latinx & Hispanic Authors

As a Latinx owned and founded practice this point is near and dear to our hearts. Reading the work of Latinx and Hispanic authors is a powerful way to show support and expand your knowledge on their lived experiences. Our Blossoming Lotus Therapy CEO and Founder Jessica Hardial, MA, LCSW, PHD (C) has co-authored the book Latinx in Social Work. If you are interested in learning more about Latinx and Hispanic lived experience this is a great resource – linked above.
