In caring for ourselves, we often don’t know where to start.  The acronym of NEW START can help.  The 2nd letter stands for:

EXERCISE:

Even 15 minutes of exercise can help oxygenate the blood, and improve your mood.

Here’s a great technique to use if you’re pressed for time, but still want to self-care.

Your body is wonderful and adaptive and wonderfully adaptive.  The following is taken from The PACE program, or Progressively Accelerating Cardiopulmonary Exertion plan, and uses the human body’s physiology to help burn calories and accelerate fat loss.

In short…. It tricks your body into burning fat based on the principle that you never use it so your body doesn’t need it.  Here’s how it works:

Pick any exercise and do it until you’re lightly out of breath.  Stop and recover.  Then do it until you’re moderately out of breath.  Stop and recover.  Then do it until you’re decently out of breath.  You’re done for the day.  The entire process from first to last shouldn’t last more than 10-15 minutes.

Using this method burns through your carbs, but not your fat.  By doing it this way you’re teaching your body that you will never need the fat and it will shed in surprising ways.

If you find that you’re plateauing, simply choose a different exercise to work a different area of the body.  Lather, rinse, repeat.

In the grand scheme of things, we get busy and we forget, and we get stressed out and overwhelmed…. This method might not be the end-all-be-all of techniques, but, when you’re struggling, and just can’t anymore for the day, consider giving this method a shot.  What have you got to lose, besides some stress, and some excess pounds.
