LPC or LPC-Associate: How to know the difference?
Great question! This can be confusing when you are trying to figure out what it is you are searching for.
A licensed professional counselor (LPC) is an individual who has obtained a master’s degree and has completed all state requirements, including 3000 supervision hours, for state licensure. An LPC is no longer under supervision as they can practice independently.
A licensed professional counselor ASSOCIATE (LPC-Associate/LPC-A) is an individual who has obtained a master’s degree and has completed all state requirements excluding the 3000 supervision hours, for state licensure. In other words, an LPC-Associate offers therapy under the supervision of a board certified LPC.
