#VoicesOfTherapy: Being you in therapy

There’s often a difference between the face we show the world, and who we truly are inside.

We are bound by social norms, expectations, and work politics, making it difficult to truly open up and express ourselves.

My gradual awareness of this is what led me to become a therapist. I started out working as a rape crisis counselor, and saw how much people suffered in silence. I also saw firsthand how therapy is a unique space where we can be our genuine selves, free of judgement.

It’s a place where we can process both the stressors and the joys of life, problem solve, and improve our daily lives. I love being a witness to people’s personal growth as they gain insight into who they are and what strengths they have.

In a nutshell, you can be you in therapy.
